I can't say enough about the DPS service. I found "Bagel" on their website and hoped she was the right dog for us. Our 10-year-old Jack Russell mix died last year of congestive heart failure. After fifteen months it was time to get another dog.
I sent many e-mails back and forth asking questions about "Bagel's" character. All my questions were answered kindly, with patience and enthusiasm. We have two homes, one in North Las Vegas and one in North Carolina and a motor home to go in between them. We had to have a dog with adventure in her soul, a great traveler unafraid of riding in vehicles of any kind, and she had to be active enough to get us off the couch and walking again.
DPS came through with much reassurances that "Bagel" was the girl for us. They brought her to us and even though she'd been a real brat the day before at another house, apparently she was just acting up to get to us. She's been the perfect girl for us.
We have all settled in and "Bagel" whom we renamed "Scruffy" (we think that was her original name since she answers to it) loves her Mommy and Daddy like she's lived with us forever. She's bonded with both of us and gives love away with all four paws. She's right by our side day and night. One or the other, it makes no difference to her. She gets my husband up and moving in the morning and me going for a long walk in the evenings with our neighbor and her two shih tzu's. I even lost a pound last week. Good going, Scruffy.
We could have paid $800 and got a "for sure" purebred and registered Jack Russell puppy and would have had to go through house training, teething, puppy exuberance and have to wait 6-8 months to go for serious walks. But why should we when we can rescue a dog who deserves to live and she's turning out to be the perfect dog for us...ready-made. She's leash trained, house trained, ready for adventure and already loves to ride in the car.
Again, I can't thank DPS enough for hooking us up with our Scruffy girl. We love her to death, she's the perfect dog.
